Two members of the McAllen High Mariachi Oro have earned All-State recognition.
Andrew Trevino (violin) and Angel Trujillo (trumpet) both landed on the Texas Mariachi Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Mariachi Ensemble, it was announced at the TMEA annual convention. Trevino made it for the second straight year.
Over several months, students have competed and auditioned in several rounds of Region, Area, and State-wide events to earn the state honor.
“Congratulations to Andrew Treviño, and Ángel Trujillo on their selection and for this outstanding achievement,” Mariachi Oro Instructor Alex Trevino said. “These students participated in four days of intense 10-hour rehearsals in preparation for the grand concert.”
The Grand Concert took place February 11 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
The McAllen High Mariachi Oro has won seven state championships in the past eight years.
McAllen ISD has been named a national Best Community for Music Education for each of the past 10 years.
