Dear Escandon Elementary Families,
I would like to welcome all of you to our 2023-2024 school year! Our Escandon Staff is ready to welcome our students back to a new and exciting school year. We are truly excited to welcome our returning students as well as meet our new students and families. First and foremost, I would like to thank you for trusting us to be part of your child's educational journey. We take great pride in providing top level education as well as ensuring that we provide all our students the best academic as well social emotional experiences possible.
As we welcome all of our students back into our campus, we want to assure you that we are working closely as a district to ensure the safety of all of our students. As a campus and as a district we continue to work diligently to enforce and take all needed precautions so your child can learn in a safe and secure environment. We are committed to ensuring our campus is secured at all times. With safety in mind a new camera security system has been installed at our campus front entrance. All visitors must now press a button to be allowed entry into our building (this system is similar to a Ring Doorbell). In addition, we will review our safety procedures with all students starting day one and will continue to reinforce them throughout the year. The best way to support our efforts is to bring your child to school on every day on time every day and allow them to remain in school until dismissal. We kindly ask that you schedule appointments outside of the school day. Early pick ups causes disruptions during instruction as well as in supervision.
Mcallen ISD is an innovative district, our instruction and daily activities, require the utilization of district issued electronic devices. District issued devices are utilized as learning tools in our classrooms on a daily basis. We ask that you ensure that any devices going home come back fully charged each and every day.
We ask for your patience as we guide all of our families through our drop off and pick up procedures. Morning traffic can be extra busy in the mornings and afternoons. We ask that you pick up your child on the east side of the drive and following the traffic flow. Please remain attentive to traffic and avoid cell phone use during this time. Keeping the passenger back seat available will loading and unloading of students go smoother. It usually takes two weeks for all families to adjust for traffic to run smoother during drop off and pick up. I ask for your patience and support as we work hard to ensure effective and safe drop off and pick up procedures.
The best way to stay up to date with activities and events is though our school newsletters, emails as well as following us on social media. Below you will find a link to our Escandon Parent Handbook. Please review all policies and procedures. If you have any questions please reach out to me. Working together we can provide the best academic experiences for your child as well as ensure their academic success.
I am excitedly waiting to welcome all of you on Monday August 28, 2023!
Mrs. Karla C. Rodriguez, Jose De Escandon Elementary Principal
