Foster Parents

FOSTER CARE- RESIDENTIAL FACILITY TRACKER
When children can't live safely at home and no appropriate non-custodial parent, relative, or close family friend is willing and able to care for them, the court can give temporary legal possession to The Department of Family and Protective Services, (DFPS). DFPS temporarily places these children in foster care. Foster care settings include Foster family homes, Foster family group homes, Residential group care facilities, and Facilities overseen by another state agency. A small number of foster homes in our district are considered specialized, and the students in these specialized homes are required to be monitored by the state.
If you are the foster parent of a McAllen I.S.D. student with special needs, and your home is considered a Specialized Home through Department of Family Protective Services (DFPS) licensing, please contact SPED Coordinator (Memorial Team) at (956) 632-3285, to determine if your foster child is among those required to be reported to the Texas Education Agency.
Please notify the campus upon registration of your foster child if the child was receiving Special Education services in their previous school district, so that we may provide comparable services on a timely basis.
Foster Care Families nurturing a foster child transferring into McAllen ISD can expect a welcoming visit from our Special Education Social Workers to begin the intake process, and ensure that the student's needs are met with care and compassion.
