Protocol and Communication for Weather Updates

McAllen ISD understands that the decision to open or close schools during bad weather has a significant impact on families.

We also recognize that students benefit academically and socially from being in school. However, as always, the safety of our students remains our top priority.

Official Communication

The official decision as to whether classes will be held will be made by the superintendent. When buses are cancelled or schools are closed, McAllen ISD will inform families by the following forms of communications:

  1. Social Media

  2. District Website: www.mcallenisd.org

  3. Automated text and email to parents and employees

    • Make sure all contact information is accurate in Skyward to receive notifications. If you have previously opted out of messaging, you can opt back in by texting START to 98900.

Recent Weather Communications

Dear McAllen ISD family,
As we continue to monitor the weather, McAllen ISD has decided to delay the start of school on Wednesday, January 22.

Delayed start times are as follows:
• Elementary: 10:00 AM
• Middle School: 10:15 AM
• High School: 10:30 AM


Campus administrative team should report at their regular times, all other campus staff will report at 9:00 a.m.  Schools will open at the usual times to accommodate parents who need to drop off their children earlier. Buses will pick up students two hours later than their regular bus stop.

Mientras seguimos monitoreando el clima, McAllen ISD ha decidido retrasar el inicio de clases el miércoles 22 de enero.
