Dr. Rene Gutierrez was named the lone finalist for the McAllen ISD Superintendent of Schools position following a vote by the Board of Trustees during a Special Meeting held Monday, October 16.
A McAllen ISD graduate, Dr. Gutierrez is a former Superintendent of Edinburg CISD and is the current Superintendent for Brownsville ISD. He has led both districts to become state "A" rated districts in the Texas Accountability System, according to his biography on the Brownsville ISD website.
Twice he has been named the Region One Superintendent of the Year, winning in 2012 while in Edinburg and this year at Brownsville.
There will be a 21-day waiting period until Dr. Gutierrez can officially be named to the position. The waiting period will run until Nov. 6, 2023.
