Congratulations to Michelle Cavazos, a teacher at Sanchez Elementary, who won a state teaching award at the H-E-B Excellence in Education awards, it was announced on May 5, 2024. The Rising Star award recognizes excellent teachers who have spent fewer than 10 years in the classroom. Her colleagues and students at the campus provided her with a surprise welcome on May 7, 2024. Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez also extended his congratulations. Ms. Cavazos teaches Dual Language students at Sanchez. She has previously won her Campus Teacher of the Year award (2022) and the Bilingual Teacher of the Year award from the Rio Grande Valley Texas Association for Bilingual Education in 2021-22.
