A McAllen ISD graduate, who was involved in McAllen ISD's KMAC program, has been nominated for a major national award. J.P. Jaramillo (Memorial High Class of 2012) is up for his work on the Kevin Costner film Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1. The film was nominated in the category of Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature by the Visual Effects Society (VES).
The 23rd annual VES awards ceremony will be on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in Los Angeles.
"This young man has spent many years in Hollywood working on major projects for small and large productions," his former KMAC instructor, Robert Garza, said. KMAC is based at McAllen High but students from all three comprehensive high schools (McAllen High, Memorial High and Rowe High) participate in this Career Technical Education (CTE) program.
The VES is the visual effects industry's professional global, honorary society. The awards recognize outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in features, animation, television, commercials, games and new media.
