Alejandra Lopez, a student in McAllen ISD’s International Baccalaureate Programme based at Lamar Academy, took second place in the Texas Region One Citizen Bee competition recently.
The competition challenged high school students on a variety of key civics topics, including the US Constitution and landmark Supreme Court cases. It was held on March 25 at the Region One Education Service Center in Edinburg.
Lopez attends IB classes at Lamar Academy. Her home school is McAllen Memorial High School.
McAllen ISD’s IB Programme has served students since 2001. McAllen ISD was the first school district in the Rio Grande Valley to offer this advanced academic framework.
