Congratulations to McHi Alumni Val LaMantia (Class of 1973) and Elizabeth Suarez (Class of 1994) for being chosen for induction into the prestigious Texas Womenās Hall of Fame. These women have been chosen for their exceptional achievements in their respective fields and for their significant contributions to shaping the history of Texas.
Val LaMantia (Class of 1973), in the field of Business, is being recognized for her exemplary leadership as the owner and managing partner of L&F Distributors. Her dedication to the McAllen community and her pivotal role as a founding member of the STARS Scholarship Fund, which has raised more than $38 million and provided educational opportunities to nearly 20,000 students in South and West Texas, are truly commendable.
Elizabeth Suarez (Class of 1994), in the field of Public Service, is being honored for her remarkable journey of service and leadership in municipal government. Currently the Director of Aviation at the City of McAllen, her efforts in establishing regional ground and air connectivity have played a crucial role in creating a seamless domestic and international transportation network, thereby supporting economic expansion not only in McAllen but also across the Rio Grande Valley and Texas as a whole.
The 2023 Texas Womenās Hall of Fame induction ceremony, hosted by the Office of the Governor and First Lady Cecilia Abbott, will take place on Thursday, November 9, in Austin.
