Middle school choirs earn treasure trove of UIL trophies
McAllen ISD’s middle school choirs enjoyed tremendous success earlier this month at the Middle School Choir UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation in Pharr. In fact, all 19 McAllen ISD choir groups which competed earned awards.
Of those 19 groups, 18 of them received Sweepstakes which is the highest UIL music score. One group earned a Superior Rating in Sight Reading.
McAllen ISD also had more performing groups and more UIL Sweepstakes Awards than any other school district in this region. Nearly half (42 percent) of the UIL Sweepstakes trophies went to McAllen ISD choirs.
“The success of the McAllen ISD Choir Program is because of some amazing teachers, wonderful students, incredible support and a program that is set up to succeed,” McAllen ISD Fine Arts Director Jim Egger said. “We continue to have something very special with McAllen ISD Fine Arts.”
McAllen ISD has been named a national Best Community for Music Education every year since 2013.
